Recovery Time With Dental Implants
Dental implant surgery can take place under non-IV or IV sedation for the extractions, bone grafts (if necessary) and implants. With IV sedation, patients can awaken with removable, or implant secured, “initial” teeth to return home with a beautiful smile. Patients resume a full schedule of
activities within 24 to 72 hours. Follow-up visits are 1, 4 and 12 weeks after surgery. Many patients report mild soreness, bleeding, or swelling, which can be treated with post operative instructions. Most patients can, and do, return to work the day after surgery. In between the first and second visit, there is a recovery period of 4 weeks to 4 months for osseointegration to take place at which point, the implant can be restored with its final restoration.
