What Is A Dental implant?
Most comprehensive dental implant centers provide the best type of dental implant to meet the specific needs of each specific patient. A dental implant is an anchor (titanium or zirconium) that is inserted into the jawbone to provide permanent support for a crown, fixed bridge, or denture when the bone itself would provide insufficient support or healthy adjacent teeth may be compromised by conventional dental techniques. After unhealthy teeth are removed, the detnal implant is anchored into the jaw. New bone bonds to the titanium anchor to permanently affix the replacement teeth through a process called osseointegration. After osseointegration has occurred, the final tooth restoration can be secured.
An Overview Of The Dental Implant Process
REPLACING A SINGLE TOOTH: One compromised, or missing tooth is easily treated in ONE visit with an “immediate” dental implant. A dental implant designed to replace a single tooth is made of three parts: The Titanium Post, which simulates the root of a pre-existing tooth by anchoring into jawbone; The Abutment, which fits over the portion of the implant that is just above the gum; and The Crown, which is fitted onto the abutment to complete the process.
THE DIAGNOSTIC PHASE: At the first visit, hi-resolution photos, digital x-rays, a 3D CAT scan and a thorough clinical evaluation will take place followed by expert explanation of the case diagnosis and treatment options. During this visit, a clear financial overview will be presented.
THE SURGICAL PHASE: The extraction, bone graft (if necessary) and placement of the dental implant takes place in ONE visit. Patients typically resume a full schedule of activities within 24 hours. Follow- up visits are 1, 4 and 12 weeks after surgery.
THE RESTORATIVE PHASE: When the implant has fully integrated with your jawbone (3 weeks to 3 months later), the “final” implant crown is placed. Dentiq restorations are made with the highest quality materials using a state-of-the art proprietary process until they are virtually unbreakable.
